World of Warcraft’s 16th anniversary came a little bit early this year. This event is ongoing until November 22nd, ending just before Shadowlands’ release.
Upon your first log-in you will receive the feat of strength ‘WoW’s 16th Anniversary’ and a letter in the mail commemorating WoW and containing an anniversary gift. Inside this gift box contains the usual year to year rewards:
Remember to make sure you use the celebration package so you don't miss out on free reputation. The buff is permanent but if you should lose it for any reason, you are able to purchase a new one for a few copper in the Caverns of Time.
The nostalgic and popular timewalking version of classic Alterac Valley has made a return this year with the event. To queue up, open up your honor tab and select it from the list near where the brawl usually shows up. If you didn’t earn the mounts from last year, you have another chance! Completing it on one faction will award both mounts. To earn them you just have to collect 200 timewarped badges from participating in the battle. There are repeatable quests for armor scraps or capturing graveyards which each award badges. Winning or losing will also award 20 or 10 badges respectively. You are able to track your progress by mousing over the wolf or ram on the honor tab. Also important to note, this progress bar is account wide so don't be afraid to complete the quests on multiple toons.
Unfortunately but still important to note, this is no longer a massive source of experience for leveling alts this year. This isn’t such a big deal since leveling to 50 goes by so quickly after the squish but it is still disappointing for some. If you are planning on joining the battle, make sure to pick up the weekly quest from Chromie for some bonus rewards!
Upon arriving at the Caverns of Time you will be met with familiar quests from previous years.
In case you missed any previous anniversary rewards, you can find most of them available from Historian Ma’di for Timewarped Badges.
This year there is a new transmog item available from her as well, the Crafted Cloak of War can be purchased for 200 Timewarped Badges and is a blue cloak for both factions.
Returning once again this year are the original world bosses from classic WoW. These bosses have a daily lockout and each drop unique transmog items that were once removed from the game with the cataclysm. The quest to kill them is repeatable each week for bonus timewarped badges so make sure to check back with the historians! Each of the bosses spawn in a different zone and the 4 nightmare dragons are on a rotating spawn with a different one up each day.
When defeated, each boss has the chance to drop item level 85 gear with the chance to warforge to item level 95. This is a good opportunity to get alts ready for Shadowlands launch!
In addition to all this, there are small activities scattered in the central area of the caverns of time. You can play volleyball with Khadgar's head, ring a replica Ahn'Qiraj scarab gong, or even sit in on an ETC concert! Leeroy Jenkins also has his own booth where he sells some of his famous spicy fried chicken!
If you're looking for more things to do, the reputation buff is also a good excuse to grind out old paragon rewards if you’re looking for things to do during downtime. Also, the experience buff makes for smooth alt leveling in time for Shadowlands. To join in on all the festivities, head on over to the Caverns of Time!
