The mission table has remained a staple side activity in WoW for added story and rewards for several expansions. For Shadowlands, different covenant troops were introduced for each covenant. This was met with its own set of hardships leading to the following hotfixes. Two of the covenants were zipping through missions with no issue, and the other two struggling to complete missions even 5 levels below their followers. Over the weekend, they decided to push a set of hotfixes to bring them more in line with each other.
Kyrian was by far one of the weaker covenants when it came to the mission table. Their covenant troops were inferior to the likes of night fae’s and necrolords’ and their companions weren’t strong enough to make the difference. Many of the companions had hard hitting aoe abilities but didn’t have the health pools to live long enough to cast them. In addition, they lack pure healer troops which didn’t help the situation.
Also, many Kyrian players were struggling to complete campaign missions until their companions outleveled them by a substantial margin. This has led to a lot of frustration when trying to complete soul ash missions earlier in Shadowlands.
Hopefully, these buffs will subsequently bring their covenant troops more in line with the others.
Venthyr was another covenant heavily struggling with their mission table. Unfortunately, many of their companions didn’t serve the purpose they were set out to and this has led to a lot of failed missions. Unfortunately, Venthyr suffered the same fate as Kyrian, where their companions had massively impactful abilities but lacked the survivability to deploy them. Additionally, their covenant troops also lack a healer which didn't help the situation.
Blizzard implemented this to correct a bug where Trappers would permanently reduce the damage of an enemy for the remainder of the mission and it stacked. Ultimately, this led to mission bosses doing much less damage than intended and allowed low level followers to breeze through them.
Night fae players have had one of the easiest times pressing through the campaign and soul ash missions on the table since launch. The dreamweaver/trapper strat quickly became a popular way to guarantee a mission’s success. This also led to players breezing through the level 60 missions with followers much lower, around the 26+ bracket.
This hotfix to their covenant troops have left night fae in an awkward spot, now struggling to complete missions much closer to their follower levels. Players who rushed through the campaign are now forced to chuck followers at missions they will knowingly fail for xp.
Many players are left wondering what to do with the lack of xp missions now that they’ve pushed their campaign too far. Additionally, we are still getting several more companions through renown and they all start at level 1. In the meantime, we just have to keep failing missions to level them up until a better solution arises. The Dreamweaver strat was extremely overpowered, but now the entire covenant is punished for using the mission table.
